{ARTISOFT'S NEW ARTISCRIBE (tm) VOICE DICTATION SYSTEM MAKES BIG
{NOISE IN COMPUTER INDUSTRY}
Includes Voice Controlled Playback During Transcription
--Artisoft announced its new ArtiScribe digital dictation system
that allows users to dictate and transcribe spoken messages
across a network. ArtiScribe works on Artisoft's LANtastic,
Novell's NetWare and any network operating system that runs on
top of DOS.
{"The ArtiScribe Voice Dictation System will enhance the
{productivity of businesses by combining the power of voice with
{the connectivity {of networks,"} said Jack Schoof, Artisoft's
President and CEO.
ArtiScribe allows both the recording (dictation) process and the
playback (transcription) process to take place in the background,
so that the foreground application is fully accessible during
these functions. The transcription process can even be
controlled by voice commands spoken into the microphone of the
headset, permitting total hands-free operation and uninterrupted
use of the main application program (typically a word processor
for creating a transcribed document).
The core software of ArtiScribe is the RAM resident "control
pad." The control pad can be popped up over any text mode DOS
application at the press of a key, and used to record and
playback voice files. When an originator dictates a piece, he or
she can attach a description of the piece before saving it in the
ArtiScribe dictation repository. Access to any given piece can be
restricted to a specified user or group of users by the
originator. The control pad also provides users with the ability
to see, hear, sort, and select from the set of all voice files in
the repository that are accessible to them.
The ArtiScribe digital dictation system requires ArtiScribe
software and the Artisoft Sounding Board adapter (formerly
LANtastic Voice) at each station. A two-station starter kit,
contains two Sounding Boards, one handset, one headset and Arti-
Scribe software.
Artisoft offers a full line of low-cost, award-winning software
and hardware for local area network communications.
